A Wonderful Wedding

So you’ve heard me talk about this wedding I’d had over the summer – my Brother’s wedding actually. I was honoured to be asked to look after table decor. Usually the grooms family is not asked to be all that helpful so, since this is my only brother, I jumped at the chance to help.

I thought I’d share a few photos of the wedding set up and table place settings with you. This is the head table. The wedding was very small (less than 40 people) and took place on Galiano Island, BC. It is an absolutely lovely spot. So, because this was a destination wedding, we had to plan and pack every little item (including all the tables, flowers, decor, etc). If you forgot one thing, you were hooped!

And here is a side view. Don’t you love those paper flowers that are holding up the swag on the front?

And a couple of close ups of the table settings. Everyone got their own “chair” with their name and relationship to the bride/groom. In addition, there is a different love-themed quote on each and every napkin. My mom did wonders with the flowers which are all in teapots and teacups. Lastly, we made little sweet treat mason jars with candy sticks on each table.

And a couple of close ups of the venue. The wedding ceremony took place in a different are of the resort, this is just the reception area.

Thank you so much for sticking around and checking out these photos! Still some great wedding projects to share in the days and weeks to come.

To My Friend (CCMC167)

Guess what? It’s Thursday. Guess what else? I’m super happy to report that I’ve been asked to be a Guest Designer at Create with Connie and Mary‘s Holiday Edition! I am really excited about the project that I’ve created to share with those of you who subscribe for this edition! Make sure you head on over to Create with Connie and Mary and sign up for this edition TODAY! And, what is better? A discount! There is currently Early Bird Pricing on now…save $5 off the normal $34.95 price…$29.95 US for six weeks of daily posts and tutorials featuring the Holiday Mini.

Another great thing about Thursdays is the newest Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week, it’s all about colour!

For my card, I used Old Olive as my base and stamped the outline leaf from Gently Falling with Old Olive Ink. I did the same thing on the Basic Grey layer and then I put it in my Simply Scored and scored in some detail border lines. I then sponged them with Basic Grey ink to highlight them a bit.

The bottom of the card is some Spice Cake designer series paper which is roughed up a bit and sponged.

For the central bundle of fun, I used Gently Falling and cut out various leaves and an acorn. I nestled them in an embossed frame which is sponged and splattered using my Air Spritzer tool. Behind the leaves, I’ve added a Decorative Label that was stamped with an image from Four Frames and inside is a sentiment from Friendly Phrases.

To finish is all off, I added some Basic Grey Satin Ribbon and a Bitty Button backed with an Old Olive circle.

I thank you so much for stopping in and for all your patience while I get my new blog set up all up and running!

Now it’s your turn to head on over to Create with Connie and Mary and play along with us!

Party Like a Pig (KKC01)

Today is the day! It is time for the first KA-POW Kreative Challenge!  Now I’ve tried to think of everything but please keep in mind that there may be hiccups along the way. Please be patient with me!  I had such great ideas for this first challenge and to be honest, was probably making things harder than I really needed to so I decided to go with a colour challenge for our first KKC!

These are great colours to play along with and I’m loving playing with the “old” In Colours and the “new” ones!

Here is how the KA-POW Kreative Challenge will work:

  • Challenges will begin on Tuesdays and last for one week.
  • Challenges will post every other week (to start).
  • A KKC Superhero and Sidekicks will be chosen each week.
  • Play along as many times as you like! We ask that you only link to three challenges MAX. If you link to more, you will not be eligible for Superhero or Sidekick status.

There will be a “sticky” on this page for one week or you can head on over to the KA-POW Kreative Challenge section of this blog to add your card and check out everyone’s samples.

Want to be inspired? Check out some great additional samples and to play along, head on over to the KKC Page!

This card is mounted on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of Wisteria Wonder cardstock and the Island Indigo layer is the part that actually opens.

I decided I wanted to play along with lots of stripes on this one. I used the Stripes Embossing Folder on the Island Indigo layer (going horizontal) and then I stamped the Old Olive layer and then crimped them vertically using my Crimper.

I added a Poppy Parade tag cut from the Two Big Tags die and tied on some Wisteria Wonder ruffled ribbon.

I used the new Button Buddie stamp set and stamped the little pig in Wisteria wonder. I then added the now in Island Indigo (it is punched out with the 1/2″ circle punch).

The Pennant Punch and Pennant Parade stamp set are used to make the cut little birthday hat which just tops this whole card off!

I’d love to see what you can come up with using this colour combo so head on over to the Official KA-POW Kreative Challenge page and play along!

I will never forget….

It saddens me every year when 9/11 comes to pass. I can remember clearly where I was, who I was with and my feelings while I watched the terror unfold in New York.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of this horrific event, we at Create with Connie and Mary have decided to do a tribute day with meaningful cards dedicated to the memory of those who were lost on this tragic day.

When coming up with a card I was overcome with many emotions and this card, although pretty simple in layout and design, has so many layers of meaning to me. As I knew there were many details I wanted to include, I used the Freshly Made Sketches sketch challenge this week to get me started on the design.

First, the scheme of colour. Simple and black and white. As I watched events unfold on that day, I don’t remember anything but the black clouds of smoke. In keeping with those clouds of smoke and debris, you’ll see a very light stamped image from Extreme Elements.

The angled piece of newsprint signifies the massive coverage of this event both on television and in print. Also, I will always remember the reams of paper floating down from the towers.

A single chair. This signifies the chairs that have not been occupied by friends and family members since 9/11.

The torn row of Heirloom fabric represents the families that were ripped apart from this tragic event.

Behind the fabric you’ll see a wee piece of Basic Black designer series paper. The stripes signify the suits of all the people who worked in the towers.

Lastly, the pierced heart. I used two pins to represent the two towers and on that day, watching all the coverage of this event, my heart felt like it was being poked and prodded and just hurt for weeks.

I thank you for visiting and I hope you find time today to give your loved ones a little extra love today.

A Crumby Snowman

This card was made for a swap at Convention this year with a great group of ladies (that reminds me that I need to get working on my swap for the holidays!). I have had this photo ready to post for a while but am just getting to it now!

The base for this card is Crumb Cake and then it’s layered with Real Red and Pool Party. This picture doesn’t show it but I actually embossed the Pool Party layer with my Perfect Polka dots embossing folder.

I added a vertical strip of Lucky Limeade and used the Northern Letterpress plate and Old Olive craft ink. The sentiment is from Four the Holidays and is stamped on Whisper White and affixed with a Silver Brad.

The tree from Snow Much Fun was stamped on Lucky Limeade cardstock and cut out (and then I added some bling). Using Jet Black StazOn, I stamped the large snowman from Snow Much Fun and sponged inside with Whisper White craft ink and then added some Dazzling Diamonds with my 2-way glue pen.

The nose was coloured with Calypso Coral and I added Crystal Effects to it afterwards.

Thanks for stopping by today and please come by tomorrow for a very special post.

Sit on Down (Inkspirations #86)

This week at Inkspirations, there is a great colour challenge to play along with!

At first, I was going to go with a holiday card but thought I’d challenge myself to do a little something different this time!

The base for my card is Marina Mist. It is stamped with Woodgrain and then up the centre with Extreme Elements.

In the centre, there is a panel of Real Red. If you look closely, there is an embossed frame in the upper portion. I wanted to do something with this layer but not too much, you know?

For the Old Olive strip, I stamped it with the manifest stamp from The Open Sea. OH SNAP! Did you hear? You can still order that AMAZING stamp set from the Summer Mini until the end of 2012! Yippee!

For the chair part, I used one of the adorable seats from Have a Seat and stamped it on Marina Mist. I cut it out, sponged the bottom with a little bit of Real Red and adhered with dimensionals to a Whisper White Decorative Label punch (which is sponged with Old Olive).

A little Old Olive 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, a Whisper White button with Real Red cardstock “tie” and a sentiment from Delightful Dozen finishes this card off.

Check out what the rest of the design team at Inkspirations has come up with and then play along with us!

Uncharted Territory (CCMC166)

It’s time for a Create with Connie and Mary sketch challenge! I love the clean and crisp nature of this design:

I decided to stray from the vast array of amazing Holiday Mini products and go with a set that is new to me but from the current Idea Book and Catalogue – Uncharted Territory.

The base for this card is Poppy Parade and I’ve layered it with some Early Espresso. Over that, I added a strip of River Rock cardstock and topped with Pool Party designer series paper. I was going for a sky with sand type look. I tied some 1/4″ Early Espresso grosgrain over the centre. Up top, I stamped the sentiment from Uncharted Territory.

The focal panel was stamped with Jet Black StazOn (on Confetti White cardstock) and I’ve coloured it in with coordinating colours using my aquapainter.

Thanks for stopping by today and please head on over to Create with Connie and Mary and play along with us this week!

Spare Time Fun!

Yes, you are reading the title correctly – I had some spare time! This almost never happens! I decided to put aside a few things I “had” to do to play along with two great challenges: Pals Paper Arts and Mary Jo’s Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.

At first I was a bit stumped and almost decided to throw in the towel but I’ve been so focused on specific projects of late that I needed to do something “just because”.

I used a base of Riding Hood Red and then layered it with Confetti White and then Calypso Coral. The central panel is Basic Gray designer series paper. It was very hard for me not to do a ton of sponging or distressing but I don’t think that is what this card needs.

For the focal layer I stamped a bunch of the cages from Aviary on Confetti White and then a couple on some scraps which I cut out, stamped on some birds and adhered with dimensionals. I tied on a little Calypso Coral ruffled ribbon and a sentiment. This is half of a sentiment from On Your Birthday (those are the words I omitted).

A fun little card that I think may just go in the mail today!

Thanks for visiting and Happy Labour Day Weekend!

Let it Snow! – Inkspirations #85

Yep, you are reading that right! It’s time to celebrate winter! This week at Inkspirations, there is a fantastic sketch to play along with:

This card was made for a swap when the stamp set Snow Much Fun first came out. I had such fun using this set and especially once I figured out that the circle in the sketch works just like a letter “O”.

I used Always Artichoke for the base and layered it with Cherry Cobbler and then Crumb Cake. I embossed the right half of the Crumb Cake layer with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.

Down the centre, I added a panel of Watercolour paper which was stamped with the large snowman image using Jet Black StazOn. I coloured him in using my Aquapainter and coordinating colours and if you look closely, you’ll see a little snowflake stamped inside his tummy using Snow Swirled and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.

Down the right side, I added a row of Tombow and some Champagne Glass Glitter.

Around the snowman, I added letters using my Simple Alphabet Die in Cherry Cobbler, Island Indigo and Always Artichoke.

I tied on some Deck the Halls Designer Fabric and on it, a little tag using some text from Punch Pals and I added a Crumb Cake button to finish it all off.

I do so hope you’ll play along with us at Inkspirations this week! Check out what the rest of the design team has done with this sketch.

A Leafy Thank You (CCMC165)

It’s Thursday and that means another challenge at Create with Connie and Mary! This week, there is a great colour challenge for you:

I decided to use Naturals Ivory for my base on this card and Basic Black as the highlight colour. Yes, you may be saying, isn’t that Old Olive? Yeah. I’m a bit of a dope and used Old Olive instead of Lucky Limeade (I just figured that out as I’m putting this together).

I’ve used the new stamp set Gently Falling from the Holiday Mini catalogue which is now available for order TODAY! Yeah! Make sure you take a look at this amazing mini offering my clicking here.

The outline stamps were used in the challenge colours to make my own background paper and I then stamped the solid leaves with a black outline on the three overlapping panels.

A few little extra details help finish this off:  Some Basic Black Striped Grosgrain which I coloured using my Stampin’ Write markers. Various Bolds buttons tied with Linen thread and a little stamped and pinned on tag complete the card.

Now not only will you see some amazing design team cards at Create with Connie and Mary this week, but Early Bird pricing for the Holiday Edition of Create with Connie and Mary is on NOW!  Save $5 off the normal price for six weeks of daily posts and tutorials featuring Holiday Mini products!
