My Favourite Artisan Project – at long last!

When completing my Artisan Award projects last year (wow, its almost time to start again!), this was my favourite. I had a completely different idea of what I was going to do when I started but was SO HAPPY with the end result. However, before I sent it, I didn’t take any photos. So,I was thrilled to find it on display at the SU’s Convention in August of this year. So, keep in mind, this is me going into an area I probably shouldn’t have to take photos (they may not be that great).

Here is the outside:

This is a fun “tween” wallet made out of fun foam. I used the fun foam as the base and covered it with Rockabilly DSP (using LOTS of sticky strip). It is kind of hard to explain but the brad “studs” in the ribbon are going all the way through to hold it all together on one side only. The other side has the brads going through the ribbon only and is sticky stripped down.

The big skull is from Just Jawing and is embossed in black on Shimmery White cardstock. I added a bow covered in chunky silver glitter and the eyes are cut out Pink Passion.

I cut a Top Note with my Sizzix Big Shot and cut it down and layered it for the top of the wallet. If you look up, you’ll see I used beads, pearls and ribbon from the Pretties Kit as the wallet chain. Now, for the inside:

You can see I used some velcro for the closure and added a large clip for some fake money. On top, I added a little mirror with a rub on. The mirror is backed on Basic Black and Pink Passion.

I double set the jumbo eyelets for the ring to clip into so it’d look clean on both sides.

This write up is extremely short for a project that took 5 hours! Please let me know if you’ve got any specific questions for me.

Have a great day!

Almost the last of the Artisan Award Projects

As you all know, I was extremely disappointed to not be an Artisan Award winner at Stampin’ Up! this year. However, while at Convention a very exciting thing happened. At Awards Night, Stampin’ Up! posted the names of the Artisan Finalists and I was one of them! I didn’t expect it and was SUPER excited.

I know, it’s kind of like being a bridesmaid and not the bride but I was happy to know that my creations weren’t that far off. Also, I found all but one of them on display for other demonstrators to view.

My most favourite project was there (and I’d forgotten to take a picture of it before I sent it) and I took a couple of quick shots of it. I’ll post those in a day or so.

In the meantime, here are a few of my last entries from this past year:

I ‘heart’ U – an Artisan Award Entry

IMG_5850

Hello Everyone! I’ve finished a three week stint of working outside the house and I’m back into crafting mode. That said, I haven’t created anything new yet so I’ll post something I made a while back for Stampin’ Up!’s Artisan Award.

Let’s see….I wanted to make a 3″ x 6″ card so I made a backing piece of Basic Black and a slightly small full card to mount on to it. Make sense?

The Whisper White layer is actually layered with Vellum Cardstock on which I stamped the large swirl from Baroque Motifs and embossed in black. Along the bottom I added a strip of Real Red that was stamped with the “xoxoxo” stamp from Holiday Blitz and I sponged the edges of this quite a bit.

I knew I wanted a scalloped edge on the bottom but not your normal scallop edge so I punched out 3/4″ circles and then around them with the 1″ circle punch for an open scallop bottom.

The chipboard has been covered with Basic Black craft ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. The chipboard heart was first covered with Black Craft Ink and then Tombow Multi Adhesive and coated in chunky red glitter.

For a finishing touch, I added some striped organza ribbon along the top in a bow. Yes, a bow – I never use these! But this card warranted a bow, I think.

I’ve only got a couple more entries to show you I think….but I’ll get my tush upstairs into the craft room and do some new and exciting crafting this week!

Tropical Wedding – an Artisan Award Entry

IMG_5846

This is one of my Artisan Award entries for this year and, like many of the projects, turned out significantly different then my original plan!

The size of this card is 5″ x 5″.

I started with the Pink Flamingo designer paper as my inspiration. I just love that paper. I cut out a number of different flowers and put them together with dimensionals and added a little glitter to the top. Now, what to do with them?

I used my Sizzix and cut out two leaves from the leaves #2 die in Old Olive. I sponged them and stamped them with Itty Bitty Backgrounds and added a “congratulations” from A Perfect Day rub ons.

The card is layered with Riding Hood Red and Summer Sun. The Whisper White layer has been run through my Sizzix Big Shot with the swirl texture plate.

For the centre panel, I stamped the outline flower from Eastern Blooms randomly in Riding Hood Red, Tangerine Tango and Summer Sun. I then covered the piece of paper with Versamark and heat and stick powder, heated it and then sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds over it and heated it again. This panel is layered on Riding Hood Red. Next, I cut out a scallop envelope in Tangerine Tango with my Sizzix and adhered behind this layer. It turned out as a sort of lever piece so I thought to myself, what do people give at weddings? Money! So I decided to make the front panel open so you could put your monetary gift right inside! Like this…..

For this section, I used a 3″ x 3″ mini envelope as my pocket for the monetary gift, added another cut out flower from the designer paper and made a tag to match. By looping ribbon around this layer and using velcro, it is the perfect closure.

WOW, I thought this write up would be longer. Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy this one.

Remember, many of the colours used on this project, namely Riding Hood Red and Tangerine Tango, are retiring in 5 days! Contact me or your local demonstrator to place an order for these coloured products right away!

Created by Love – an Artisan Award Entry

IMG_5854

This is yet another of my Artisan Award entries this past year. I tell you, having all these pictures available have invaluable since starting my new job. I haven’t really had much time to craft these past couple of weeks so using these photos to keep you all entertained.

I love making baby cards and I’m always trying to find a new and exciting way to make them. This card uses the Art by Design stamp set for the salutation, pretty sneaky, huh?

The card base is Creamy Caramel and layered with Very Vanilla and then Blush Blossom. I rounded two opposite corners. On the top left, I rounded two of the layers and tied it in with some vanilla taffeta ribbon.

On the Blush Blossom layer, I used the Pick-a-Petal brass template and dry embossed part of it and then paper pierced along the inside circle. I adhered vanilla pearls from the Pretties Kit to the scallops.

For the centre part of the card, I used Art by Design to stamp the words and punched them out with the large oval punch. I stamped the moon from Nursery Necessities in Barely Banana and clear embossed it, cut it out and adhered to the card base. I also embossed a piece of vanilla cardstock with irridescent ice and punched it out with the small star punch. I added one more vanilla pearl and tied it all up with some vanilla taffeta ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hippo Birthday – an Artisan Award Entry

IMG_5852

Here is another one of my Artisan Award entries – this is a pocket birthday invitation. When I started making this project, I had a completely different idea in my head and this is what evolved. I was really pleased with this project. Oh, another project I was super pleased about won the Father’s Day contest on Shelli Gardner’s blog this week…..sorry, just had to toot!

The base is Chocolate Chip and it is layered with Real Red and textured Kiwi Kiss cardstock on top and designer paper from the Hoppy Memories Simply Scrappin’ Kit on the bottom. Across the seam, I added some wide double stitched Chocolate Chip grosgrain and some 5/8″ Real Red grosgrain. I tied this layer of ribbon in a piece of Styled Silver HodgePodge hardware.

I stamped the hippo from Pun Fun on some watercolour paper using Jet Black StazOn and coloured him in with coordinating inks and an aquapainter. I then cut him out and adhered him to the card over a star from the Hoppy Memories SS kit.

I then added some lettering in Chocolate Chip using my Naturally Serif sizzlet and my Sizzix Big Shot and under those letters I layered a few different circles which I had run through the Sizzix with various texture plates. The inside piece looks like this:

IMG_5853

This is a Real Red layer which I added a layer of Whisper White to. I stamped the to/from stamp from Hugs & Wishes in Basic Black. On the top I added a half circle of coordinating designer paper, two brads and some of the matching double stitched wide Chocolate grosgrain. I stamped and cut out the little bird from Pun Fun after watercolouring it as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Shake it Up – an Artisan Award Entry

IMG_5843

So I’ve decided to come out from under my rock and share some of my Artisan Award entries with you all. No, didn’t win this year – alas…..It was my first year entering and you can’t win them all, right?

Anyhow, I thought I’d post a few pics for you all to see. However, my most-most-most-most favourite project got sent without a photo! Hopefully Stampin’ Up! will choose it to put up as a sample at an upcoming event or I’ll have to recreate it (not sure if Marnie can sit through another 5 hour marathon of just watching me craft, however).

So, this is the first of my three scrapbook pages – this one is 8 1/2 x 8 1/2.

The layers are Real Red, Basic Black and Pink Pirouette. I added some decor elements (flourish) to the front of Pink Pirouette piece. Under one side (top left) I added a couple of black brads and on the bottom right I added a clear square button on which I added a rub on from Perfect Day rub ons and added a wee bit of Real Red cardstock in behind it so it’d look like the centre was red.

The photo of my friend Brenda is layered the same as the page itself. For the chipboard letters, I sponged them with Pretty In Pink craft ink and then took my black marker and edged them all in black to make them pop.

Lastly, for the journalling, I used various stamp sets (Fundamental Phrases and Garden Whimsey), markers, my own yucky handwriting and the Calendar Numbers and Letters Alphabet in coordinating colours.

Thanks for stopping by and for all your support everyone! I appreciate you all bearing with me these days as I’ve just started a new job and am trying to fit in all these posts in my working days.
